Wildwood is a popular beach destination with a vibrant boardwalk and dozens of outdoor attractions. It welcomes millions of visitors every year, many of whom explore the island when it’s sunny outside.
Of course, even Wildwood has the occasional rainy day. But when it rains, there’s still plenty to enjoy.
Here are four things to do in Wildwood, NJ, when it rains.
1. Experience the Magic of Doo Wop
Let the rhythm of Doo Wop brighten up your rainy day at the Doo Wop Experience and Neon Sign Garden.
The museum’s history dates back to 1960, when the “Surfside” beachfront restaurant debuted in Wildwood Crest. The restaurant was best known for its unique space-age architecture, which included a pinwheel-shaped roof with sharp angles and large glass panes.
In 2002, the Surfside’s landlords wanted to demolish the restaurant. At this point, the Doo Wop Preservation League (DWPL) helped raise money to disassemble and store the restaurant’s steel superstructure.
Three years later, Wildwood agreed to host the structure and finance the resurrection of the Surfside as a museum to celebrate all things Doo Wop.
In April 2007, the museum opened across from the Wildwoods Convention Center in Fox Park.
Today, the museum celebrates the history of the Wildwood Doo Wop architectural style of the 1950s and 1960s. It showcases memorabilia that features bright colors, neon lights, and futuristic designs that were popular during the Doo Wop era.
Museum visitors can take a guided tour to learn about Wildwood’s history and the Doo Wop architectural style. Film screenings, lectures, and other events are also held at the museum throughout the year.

2. Drink, Dine, and Have Fun at a Local Brewery
A rainy day in Wildwood gives you a chance to relax, rewind, and focus on taking care of yourself. It’s the perfect time to treat yourself to an afternoon or night out at MudHen Brewing Company.
MudHen offers craft beers that showcase Wildwood’s distinct flavors and character.
Along with its beers, MudHen provides BBQ ribs, smoked wings, burgers, and other tasty eats.
The brewery hosts live music, paint and sip nights, and other events year-round, too.

3. Roll a Strike with Family and Friends
You don’t have to be a pinhead to enjoy a rainy day indoors at Island Bowl.
Dating back to the 1970s, Island Bowl has been a top spot for family fun in Wildwood. Bowlers young and old are sure to appreciate the alley’s traditional wood lanes, automatic scoring, and fast pinsetters. Island Bowl also hosts cosmic rock-n-bowl and other events at different times during the year.
Along with these things, Island Bowl offers a snack bar and lounge.

4. Visit a World War II Hangar
This is a can’t-miss destination for history buffs or anyone who wants to learn more about World War II. Travel back in time — and make the most of a rainy day in Wildwood — at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum in Cape May. It may not be in Wildwood, but it’s only about a 15-minute drive away.
This museum is located inside of a real World War II hangar. Here, you’ll be able to walk up to and sit inside World War II airships. The museum also features hands-on exhibits and showcases equipment, photos, and other World War II-era memorabilia.
Take a self-guided tour of the museum at your leisure. And keep an eye on the museum’s yearly calendar to stay up to date about free lectures and exhibits.
