How to Enjoy the Sunset in Cape May

Sunset in Cape May

Visiting Cape May, New Jersey? No trip would be complete without taking in the beautiful Cape May sunset.

Since the beaches of Cape May and many other East Coast cities and towns face the east, many people associate them with amazing sunrises. In addition to the fact that Cape May is home to some of the Jersey Shore’s top-rated beaches, it’s also located where the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean meet. If you visit the right spots, you can see a dazzling sunset to close out your day at the beach.

At Mahalo Cape May, we want you to enjoy everything the Jersey Shore has to offer. When you stay with us, catching a beach sunrise is as easy as stepping outside of our beachfront resort in the morning. To help you catch the sunset as well, we’re sharing these tips.

1. Find Out When the Sun Sets

Many free sources, such as Time and Date, list the sunrise and sunset times for Cape May and other cities. Check the sunset time before you visit Sunset Beach in Cape May, NJ, or other local spots. This helps you plan out your day and make sure you have plenty of time to settle in before the sun sets.

2. Know Where to Go

Sunset Beach is a top spot to see the Cape May sunset in Lower Township near Cape May Point. Walk down to the beach, lie down on the sand, and look up in the sky as the day ends. Or, park your car and enjoy the sunset.

If you’re going to Sunset Beach to catch the sunset, we recommend arriving early, since parking fills up quickly in the small lot. On top of that, when you arrive early, you’ll be able to take part in the evening flag ceremony, which honors veterans. Bring chairs or a beach blanket, so you and your family or friends can sit comfortably on the beach. While you watch the sunset, play a round of mini-golf, enjoy dinner or drinks, or pick up a souvenir at Sunset Beach Gifts.

Beyond Sunset Beach, we recommend the covered Sunset Pavilion at the Cape May Promenade and Cape May Lighthouse for catching the sunset. Sometimes called “paradise found,” Harpoon’s on the Bay in North Cape May offers a waterfront bar featuring fresh oysters, 42 beers on tap, and picture-perfect views of the sunset. With its sleek, comfortable environment and large selection of wine and sangria options, Willow Creek Winery is also an ideal place to relax with family and friends and watch the sunset. Or, catch an evening cruise on Cape May Harbor, which features great views of the sunset over Delaware Bay.

3. Bring Your Camera and Jacket

Before you make your trip to catch the Cape May sunset, pick up batteries or recharge your camera or phone so you’ll have no trouble snapping photos and videos. Additionally, take photos and videos of your family and friends as they enjoy the sunset to remember your time together.

Also before the sun goes down, we recommend stopping by a Cape May clothing shop and picking up a sweatshirt or light jacket for any chill evening temperatures.

4. Celebrate the Sunset

If you’ve followed our previous tips, all that’s left now is to live in the moment and take in nature’s beauty with those who matter most. At Sunset Beach in Cape May, family and friends can come together to watch the sunset and enjoy food, drinks, a soft beach, and a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Of course, the team at Mahalo Cape May knows how to transform an ordinary sunset experience into an exceptional one. Tell us what your perfect Cape May sunset experience looks like, and we’ll do everything we can to bring your vision to life.
