1. Explore the Battery 223 World War II Bunker on the Beach
Location: Cape May Point State Park
Some say Battery 223 is haunted. The government constructed the bunker during World War II to aid with coastal defense for ships passing through the Delaware River and Bay. The bunker never saw active service during World War II and was officially decommissioned in the 1960s. In the early 2000s, a beach restoration project saved it from slipping away into the ocean. In June 2008, Battery 223 was added to the National Historic Register. Now, the bunker remains in plain sight for visitors to observe from the outside.
2. Spend Time with Alpacas at the Jersey Shore
Location: 521 Route 47 South
Located in nearby Green Creek, the Jersey Shore Alpacas farm is the perfect spot to see alpacas big and small. If you want to meet the alpacas, schedule a private mingling tour. Or, if you want to feed them carrots, book a fence line feeding tour. At the farm’s shop, you can buy hats, scarves, and other accessories and apparel made out of alpaca wool.
3. Railbike Along The Nature Conservancy’s Garrett Family Preserve
Location: 609 Lafayette Street (Check in behind the Welcome Center)
